The entire journey of Anntaraal started with this one thought.
A few years back I happened to experience a magical, catharsis moment while watching a Playback Theater Performance by an Indian Playback Group 'Ghumakkad'
The story of my life with all its ups and downs was being played by the actors who improvised it on the spot.
The symphony of this unadulterated art-form and the purity of the performers touched me immensely.
The spontaneously improvised act culminated with a song so apt, each one in the audience had tears of oneness. That is when I wasn't aware of the RED THREAD but what I definitely knew was, I wanted this art form to reach to more people through the medium I knew best.
From presenting it as a Documentary to a Short Film to a Feature length film to finally writing down the first line of this Web Series, and then finding the cast to the actual shoot to music it was one amazing journey.
Once I locked in the script the monumental task on hand was to find the seven main lead who didn't necessarily have to be actors but had to be really intuitive and willing to learn.
After a month and a half long casting session we finally zeroed in our seven main lead.
Now began the tougher part of training them, not only in acting (Since they were all non-actors) but also in Playback Theater.
A lot of investment in the form of time, effort and finances went into the making of the seven episodes of Anntaraal. Some amazing people came forward and without asking anything in return pitched in whatever way they could.
But yet there is lots to accomplish, since we have post production work to achieve.
Crowd funding websites do exist but it appears that they are there more for their own benefit than Independent Artists like us. They also charge you a bomb for the little effort they put in for your project.
OTT platforms now seem to be flooded with BIG names and BIG banners, which also happen to sell them crap as a multi-film deal. The independent films and CONTENT films that they proclaim they acquire and support are far rare and mostly picked from various festival circuits which in itself are another circus altogether.
